Family Business No. 01

28 12 2006

My brother gave me Corpse Bride on DVD as a x-mas present. And he got married today. I wonder if there is some strange message which I didn’t get, yet. Especially with my father and me not being invited and stuff. But more about that soon.

M-Class Planets

27 12 2006

Now I thought this term is just science fiction from the Star Trek universe. But today I learned otherwise.
We live (long) and learn (and prosper).

Ohrbooten live No. 2

24 12 2006

So yesterday, I saw one of my favourite bands, the Ohrbooten for the second time this year.
The first concert was in a small location in Essen, intimate atmosphere, average age twentysomething and just wonderful.
Yesterday was their closing concert in Berlin. More than 1000 guests, average age a lot younger, special guests on stage etc. In all: quite a contrast to the first concert.
But in spite of all these differences, it was wonderful.
jeck and I stood right in front of the stage and had a great evening.

And something happened what I never would have guessed: I have sore muscles in my right arm and shoulder. Too much hip-hop-arm-swinging-in-the-air. I wonder if there is a special name for this? Not the sore muscles, but the arm-movement (which I always considered rather dumb until my first Ohrbooten-concert).

PS: Every guest got a present after the concert: two Ohrbooten-singles (the price for two singles equals the ticket price for the concert. nice treat)

Classical Music in Movies

19 12 2006

Every now and then I discover a wonderful piece of classical music through modern movies.
Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture is one. I had the tune in my ear for years, because Mr. Keating whistles it in the Dead Poets Society (btw: still looking for the lyrics anthology they have in the movie, any help?), but this year I reheard it in V for Vendetta. Another great movie with a great soundtrack. And just now I bought the cd with the overture; not the soundtrack though. And the cannons do appear in this version. Quite funny.

Border Behaviour

15 12 2006

I grew up near the dutch border. And I always felt a bit awkward (which is by the way one of the coolest words in the english language) because when germans went shopping in the Netherlands they presumed everybody will understand them if they speak german. As a matter of fact, everybody did, but I thought we should make an effort and either learn some dutch or speak english or whatever.
Alright. I have to admit, when I tried to ask in what I believed to be Dutch how much the shoes are, the clerk looked at me in surprise and replied in English: “Are you from Norway?”
Ehm, anyway.
Today I went to a x-mas market in the city and there were about 80 % visitors from the netherlands. And they regularly addressed the shopkeepers in Dutch. So I guess the score is even.

Schrott-Filme: Shinobi

15 12 2006

[Quote]

Was soll das denn bitte schön heissen, internationales Aussehen?

Fame Fame Fame

12 12 2006

Our theatre soap started in September, premiere of episode no. 4 is today. And beside some unlovely effects like having a fairly intimate love-scene with my ex-girlfriend (jesus, that is so hard to play) there are lovely effects too.
Like when I just called my doctor for the final lyme-disease-test. And her nurse yelled out after I just said my name:
‘You were in the newspaper!’
‘- Ehm, was I?’
‘Yes, on sunday, are there still tickets available?’
etc. etc.
So that was quite unexpected. Usually it’s more like: yes, come in, what’s your name again, alright, bye.

Nice =)

And last wednesday I strolled over the local market, when somebody whispered to me: “So, you got the million?” I have to add that in episode no. 3 the local mob demands 1 million euro from my character.

Edit:
The story continues: I just had a coffee with a colleague. When the waitress came to our table, her first question was not what we’d like to order, but whether my soap-character is the murderer.

Song of the month: Tide is High

7 12 2006

Well, from next year on, there will be one song each month.
Until now it was more or less a song of the quarter or so.
Anyway. The winner is “Tide is High” by Seeed from the album New Dubby Conquerors. Very nice tune, and some lines are great.
