What happened to summer?

31 05 2006

If it stays that cold, I’ll have to get my gloves and other winter clothes out of the closet again. At the end of May it’s supposed to be warm! Swimming, strolling in the parc, sweating in my always too hot appartment and so on. But it’s running noses and running heaters instead. Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

Chaotic Movie Trailers

30 05 2006

After reading Redeemer’s blog I more or less rediscovered watching movie trailers online. Using Firefox, I start loading several trailers in tabs. And I always forget that they may start simultaneously. So I watch the Apocalypto trailer and wonder why the narrator talks about his doctor and stuff. Strange second plot line, I wonder. Not shown in the trailer at all. Just the voice. Is the movie all about a dream? Still wondering. Finally the word “Peaceful Warrior” drops. Rings a bell. So there goes another confused trailer show. And it’s not as if this has happened for the first time.
Sometimes it’s just nonsensical, but some movies get a rather interesting drift. I should start a best of list of the best trailer mixes…

Kevin Spacey vs. Superman

So at least they have a proper villain in the movie . But still not one for the must-see-list.

Dubbing specialities

26 05 2006

Dubbed another movie yesterday, set in New Orleans. And which part do I have to speak? The stuttering guy. Not exactly easy, but we grow with our defiances (do you say that in English?) to meet our challenges, don’t we?

The End of Harry Potter

9 05 2006

Every now and then, the question pops up how the Harry-Potter-story will end.

I cannot really imagine Harry & Co going to school. So what will we get instead: a long war-story? A crusade for the, what’s the name, horcruxes of Lord Voldemort?

And Dumbledore’s death left me wondering. He just said “Please” to Snape, before he was killed. Not “Save me” or whatever, so I got the feeling, he knew what was going to happen or it was one possible plan at least. So Snape may still be on the good side. And I think he could have killed Harry easily enough, couldn’t he? Another point hinting at that direction. Maybe it’s like in Star Wars, Dumbledore will come back somehow in some way.

Any suggestions?

Stupid Jedi

9 05 2006

I rewatched Revenge of the Sith and there’s one thing I really dislike. The Jedi have their council, there are plenty of knights and everything. In episode II, they fought against a superior number of droids, blocked hundreds of laser bolts. Only some Jedi died.
But in Episode III, they are all instantly wiped out except Yoda and Obi-Wan?
The only one putting up a good fight (well, an okay fight), is Mace Windu. His colleagues are killed instantly as are most of the others. What about their Jedi skills? All lost?
I cannot find a good explanation except one:
George Lucas thought at the end of Episode III everything has to be set for Star Wars: A New Hope. That’s why we see the Deathstar in one of the last shots. But does it take almost 20 years to finish it, when it’s already that much advanced? It would have been more than enough to see the model (which is shown once in Episode III).
But I guess they don’t trust the audience’s intelligence, so they wanted to make it extra-clear.
Concerning the Jedi it would have been way more realistic (great to use this word in this context) if at least a small group of Jedi managed to escape. They would have been hunted down in the years between Episode III and IV.
George messed it up.
What a pity.
