Well, let me explain. Or rather, let the wikipedia explain:
Fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) is a sales or marketing strategy of disseminating negative (and vague) information on a competitor’s product. The term originated to describe disinformation tactics in the computer hardware industry and has since been used more broadly. FUD is a manifestation of the appeal to fear.
The term is also used when politicians tell us that the terrorists are everywhere, because if we are fudded (is that a word yet?) enough we will agree to anything. Needless to say that mass media have a long history of fudding around, because scares make for good rates. penny Arcade posted a pièce de résistance* which will sent you packing because after you have seen it, the only place you want to live will be Bavaria**. If you don’t have the time here is the abstract from the pA-post:
While driving on the highway, a child molester who is also driving might look into the back seat of your car and see your child using their DS back there. According to this terrifying report, the child molester can then - while driving their car - produce a DS of their own and utilize it to divine your home address. You will recall that he is driving on the highway at speeds approaching sixty miles an hour. One hand is on the wheel and the other is managing the gearbox. Thus, there can be no question.
He is entering these messages into the DS with his erect phallus.
* Yes, I looked that one up. It means “Glanzstück”.

Saw Ong Bak yesterday and have to admit: This movie rocks. In many aspects it reminds me of the first Metallica album “Kill ‘em all”. It’s straightforward, powerful and very brute force. It also shows much potential for things to come.
The style which is shown in the movie is also like this. Of course you have the usual break-a-leg-with-a-nasty-sound-scene, but I got the impression that every technique in Muay Thai that doesn’t directly aim to the head makes way for a direct hit to it. But then that could just be because such scenes were shown more often…

In other but related news: Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution turned out to be a major suckage. There are two kinds of fighting games: Those that give me the feeling of a direct connection between my fingers on the joypad and the things the characters do. And then there are things like VF4E, where I have the feeling, that I have to push the buttons in the right order to later watch what is happening on the screen.
I have the suspicion that this has something to do with my internal clock cycle being out of sync with my pS2. Squee hadn’t any of those problems. Boy, was that frustrating…
I’ll never ever buy a game again before testing it. promised. Also it’s not really the Outsider’s fault I think I’ll blame him anyways…
I really wish there were a martial arts category.
Just got Burnout 3 - Takedown. If you liked Burnout you’ll love this game. Crashing other cars is a discipline on it’s own now…
