I got an invitation an invitation to vox.com (thx G!) and am now checking out whether this might be a new toy for me or not. Vox is a blogging tool which aims to integrate other media as well. It also has a three level access system. You can mark posts or other content as visible for the world, friends, family or the latter two. It also features a comfortable web2.0-style editor, but I miss the opportunity to mess with the “source code” of posts.
part of the process is that I have now five invitations to give away. This aims at the regular readers of my g-blog, I might decline inquiries from people I don’t know.
If the new service is good I might try to move my g-blog crowd there but right now I’m a little sceptical. But then the whole site ist still labeled as “preview”.
Oh yeah: You can find me at jeckpixelbrei.vox.com. I’ll probably double post the next weeks here and there.

Currently, it lacks an import feature. I think if they want people to make the switch, they need an importer which accepts RSS or Atom files, so people can bring their “history” (i.e. their blogs) with them.
I’ve taken a look at TypePad’s braindead import format, and I hope they get their act together. That format isn’t even XML, there’s almost no space for metadata… bad. Bad, bad, bad.
That aside, I think they have a pretty solid product there. It’s new, it’s shiny, it’s “connecty”. Well done.
That is certainly a valid point. But beware: If they manage to implement this, we might be bugging you for an RSS-Feed that contains all our posts and comments or some such thing. =)
Is the site slow to load on your end to?
I just beging to grasp the possibilities of the collection stuff and I really like the access-levels. You think they make a paid option later on where you can remove the ads from your blog?
Yes, should I decide to shut down G-Blog.net in the future, I’ll only do it after there is an “export all my blog entries” option for everyone. No worries. :)
A bit, aye.
