We do. I remember imagening how cool it would be to watch movies while traveling. And now I have a portable DVD-player.
MMPORPG are another example.
I wonder how we will feel in 20 years…
And did you take a closer look at Marten’s hand in panel no. 2? Looks weird, doesn’t it? Makes sense if Marten is a ballet dancer. And that would be some surprise.
I remember reading one of those cheesy Star Trek novels many years ago. At the beginning, the story followed the crew of an asteroid miner that was returning home after a successful trip. As they approached the planet, one of the crew remotely accessed the planetary computer network to read the news and check for mail.
I immediately thought that this was the coolest thing ever, and I dreamed of the day when I could use my computer to send messages and check the news whenever I wanted. I wouldn’t have to wait until 11PM for the news shows and sit through all the commercials for that really interesting story they keep mentioning but won’t talk about until the last 30 seconds of the program, or wait for the newspaper and have to flip through the pages because they can’t print the whole thing in one spot like normal people do. And of course I’d be able to look up anything I wanted to know, because surely they’d put some kind of encyclopedia program in there. And the games… I had this great idea for a game that would be like Zelda or Dragonwarrior, only with tons of people, and instead of buying your swords and potions and stuff from the computer, you’d have a real person running the shop so you could haggle over the price if you wanted to. Screw flying cars, I wanted computer networks!
Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s 2AM and I need to pricecheck a Shadowblade on the Guild Wars wiki.
