… where I think: “Wow. If anyone else had tried this, there’d be a internet wide shitstorm by now..” Witness yourself:
[Quote] Tiger comes on DVD-ROM media only. This is a first for Mac OS X. For customers without DVD-capable optical drives, Apple offers a $9.95 “Media Exchange program.” To take advantage of the program, customers must purchase Tiger, fill out a form, then mail it back to Apple along with their original Tiger DVD and a $9.95 payment (plus any applicable sales tax). It’s true but you can use the DVD’s iso.dmg, too. And the iPod, of course, as well as any other Apple computer.
Yeah right. You can always find excuses why the latest adsurdism from your favourite company isn’t that bad.
But I think there are people out there who have neither DVD-drives nor friends who have one. And the probably don’t know what an ISO-image is, cause they bought they’re iBook for ease-of-use. And they seem to be royally fucked on this one., don’t they?
Nevermind me, I’m just rambling… ^^
..and there are some weird people who don’t even own a Mac.
Remember, it is a commercial product. Nobody has to buy an Apple, or least of all Tiger. So please, stop whining.
It just reminds me of the same discussion some years ago on floppy disks. Do you still need one? I don’t.
In, let’s say, two three years Longhorn will be sold on DVD, too. But wait. As for Windows, it is just wise to not update the OS, anyway.
Uuh, I guess, I also started ranting.
1.) We agree: We are above doing some childish thing like a OS-war flame-thread, aren’t we? ^^
2.) ( Watch me rambling on! =) ) I didn’t whine, I just pointed something out.
3.) What I was pointing out, was not against the company or the software. I was just saying, that if someone else (maybe someone with an M and an s) would have done this, there would pungent sarcasm and “OMG! Look what they have done!” all over the blogosphere.
4.) Well, there might something to be said about releasing a new OS every 9 months, but I’m not telling… ^^
