Fresh from the funny hats department…

…goblin style this time.

Hail ‘em!

Tehe.

Beware of the mods!
They are just but merciless.
Their judgement is well founded and swift.
Don’t mess with them cause “it’s not wise and there’s nothing to gain“.

Sorry, got carried away there.

Ahem.

buggers off.

I’m not sure wether it was a good idea…

…but squee and me had a glass of this:

I’m not sure wether this was a good idea. In the mall where we got this nearly everyone bought a single bottle. So if our government tries to infect the citizen with mind-controlling nano-machines they sure did a good job. It’s from a well-known brand and it’s blue, so you probably want to try it but you sure won’t another go: It tastes like rubber…

Modem users beware! Following pic is about 26 kB.

Squee already feels poisoned, so if your not hearing from me, I went to back to where I came from.

I am no geek…

…or so it seems.

Today I met with cK to talk about the John-von-Neumann-paper I’m going to write. During a conference I heard an audio feature for which cK had done the research. Since they quoted something I had read before but only from third sources, I asked about the material ( an obituary by the Life-Magazin from 1957 ). I found that she was also going to write a paper about JvN and thus we met to discuss how we could avoid writing the same thing or wether we would write a joint paper. We decided to go for the latter option which suits me very well since I don’t like to work alone but find it difficult to socialize with most of the people at my institute. p feels the same way (about working alone) and mentioned that she thinks herself lucky that not some ‘geeky programmer’ asked her about JvN but a person one can work with. So, there. [ Just for the record: We're both studying computer science =) ]

Later that day I helped a guy from work with some of his pC problems. Mainly the usual Xp hassle which I showed him workarounds for since he didn’t want to do a reinstall. I kept things as simple and as comprehensible as possible and tried to explain everything to him, for which he was grateful. ’tis not the geeky way either…
Tomorrow I’ll get a crate of wine as payment. BTW: This guy is organising a really cool project: He plans to recover 3 planes ( Lockheed p-38 “Lighning” ) which got lost in Greenland and are buried under approx. 100 metres of compressed snow.

Before I got to work I called A which from now on will be known as Squee*. Since months I urge her, to at least have a look at some martial arts training, cause I always thought she might like it and she too had told me that she wants to ‘do something’. Somehow I always expected she would join me to one of my Karate-lessons, but she told me she would be to embarassed to try something totally new in front of me. So next Monday she’s going with a friend to his Kung-Fu-training. If she picks it up Wednesday will be the only day where none of us is training. Doing sports and having a girlfriend who does sports too is also not very geeky…

Conclusion: Also I thought I would become one, I seem to be far away from being a geek.

* Another one. Soon they’ll all be assimilated…

rhyming contest from the not really a funny hat department

This girl finds long dreads really cool
they are made of pure white wool
even if it’s not fair:
wool makes no good hair
and is against every fashionrule.

Come on, community! You can do better than me! Rhyme away!

Don’t talk about Fight Club

Damn! I thought I could bring my quarrel with petrol to an end at the Fight Club but had to learn that Lycos closed it.

What to do now? Someone knows a similar thing?

New Career

Also I never thought that I could become a model with my true appearance, but it seems that this job is rapidly gaining momentum. My first true-face-pic got published in a catalogue:

Edited for better link.

Hmm. Although this explanation of KISS* somehow has a point I like the original meaning better…

*Keep it simple stupid.

Karate Kid

In the seminar about indian religions today we talked about our personal religious belief and practice. Since the prof thought the matter to be very personal he set some rules before the talk begun.

Everyone may say something or not.
Silence between statements is okay.
No one judges or comments on previous statements.
The statements are not to be told anyone outside the course room.

(I hope this entry is vague enough. I may not make to much sense, because other things where involved which I wont post here due to the rules.)

After a few statements D. got very excited about a statement and tried to defend itself rather fanatically although no one had attacked him in the first place. After a while the prof told him that he could calm down, because there was no one who wanted to argue.

Then I got to speak and said that he (D.) did not follow the rules, because he interpreted a statement by another person as attack and tried to prove it wrong thus judging it.

But the prof didn’t agree with me, quite the contrary: He thanked D. for his statement and said it was a valuable addition to the discussion which showed that personal belief always is a complex and often emotional topic.

I was dumbfounded then. I had made the same mistake as D. because I had attacked him for his statement. I felt like Karate Kid who gets rebuffed by Mr. Miyagi for a stupid mistake he could have seen himself.
