I silenced my pC [Shuttle SN45G] today. Like all SFF it had heat and noise issues. I found a hack on the net which was for the SS50 and gave me a good idea about what I could do*, but it was much simpler than that…
I exchanged the original somewhat noisy Fan [Sunon KD1208pTB1] with an pabst 8412 N/2 GME which doesn’t moves as much air but is significantly quieter. To resolve the heat issue I ordered a TTC 003 which I run only at 7 volt to quite that fan too. The result is pretty chilly and mute: My proc is approximately 8° cooler [and what is more important: it's always below 52°, which is the point at which the cpu-fan will speed up] and quieter than before.
As I was shopping I couldn’t resist the urge to buy an unnecessary gadget. This must be nearly the same as painting flames on your car…

* I didn’t plan everything before and got me a 50mm fan and grille which I couldn’t use, cause my power supply is much smaller than the one in the SS50. Silly me.
